Our base camp, Glen Dene Station, is located in an area of natural beauty. We run an environmentally conscious company, aiming to provide an eco-friendly balance between present land usage and tourism. We take responsibility for our actions and the actions of everyone using our land, to ensure sustainability of the natural resources available to us.
SILVER ENVIRO AWARD
As owners of Glen Dene Station, we work hard to develop the potential for the property since undergoing the initial tenure review in 2007. We aim to successfully blend farming and recreation. We believe conservation is key to a sustainable future. As a family, we farm and manage a hunting and fishing operation on a 5974 ha (15,000 acres) high country sheep, beef and deer farm located beside the two worlds Heritage parks of Mt Aspiring and Te Wahipounamu.
Sarah has an Eco-Tourism background and has helped develop an environmental approach to our operations. This is most keenly seen in the gate to plate approach for all hospitality provided by all our operations. Where possible we source food from our land and gardens and cook on site.
In 2016 Glen Dene joined Qualmark, New Zealand’s tourism accreditation program. In 2017 we received the Silver Sustainable Tourism Business award. Together with our team, we are determined to continually improve Glen Dene Hunting and Fishing to ensure the continual delivery of exceptional customer experiences.
BALLANCE FARM ENVIRONMENT AWARD
In 2009 Glen Dene took away the Ballance Farm Environment Award. Since then we have continued to focus on applying sustainability principles consistently across all aspects of our operation.
Following the Ballance award, our efforts were recognised with a Ministry of Agriculture scholarship to complete an executive development program with Rabobank in Sydney.
Ongoing surveys of vegetation in conjunction with the Department of Conservation, water quality monitoring and the health and of the population of deer and chamois give us in-depth technical data on the property.
