As 2018 comes to a close, we are reflecting on what has been another successful year at Glen Dene Hunting and Fishing.
A real highlight was receiving a Qualmark Gold Award, which recognises that Glen Dene Hunting and Fishing delivers exceptional customer experiences and is leading the way in making New Zealand’s tourism industry a world-class, sustainable visitor destination.
We believe this award, that is only given to operators that demonstrate the highest level of service and safety for clients, reflects the quality of our long-term local guides. Along with the rest of our team, they are dedicated and passionate about the services we offer at Gen Dene.
Another positive this year has been our in-house taxidermist John McLean has recently spent eight weeks in Texas, upskilling on ways to preserve your trophies. It is all part of our upgraded expediting service and we now have a new method of sending trophies home with our clients. At Glen Dene Hunting and Fishing we understand that it’s really important to get your trophies back to your own countries in a timely and cost-effective way, so you can reflect on your memories and experiences gained while hunting with us.
Looking ahead to the 2019 season and we can assure you that anyone hunting here is going to be well fed by our Glen Dene Hunting and Fishing cooks Lindsay and Robin. They are passionate foodies and are going to be foraging for fresh, seasonal produce in our farm’s garden and also using meat sourced from Glen Dene station to provide delicious fare for our guests.
At Glen Dene Hunting and Fishing we like to get around the table in the evening to share stories and enjoy a New Zealand-inspired meal with our guests.
Next year will see a series of accommodation upgrades at The Camp and also Cross Hill Lodge. Set in stunning locations nearby, they provide the perfect base camp for your hunting trips and adventures.
While we offer packages for hunting red stags, Himalayan tahr and chamois, or fishing for trout in the stunning Lake Hawea and its surrounding tributaries, we’re also more than happy to custom-design a package that suits you. Talk to me or to my “right hand” Claudia Massey, so we can understand what you would like to get out of your trip here and make it happen for you.
We are fortunate to have a specific female hunting guide Stacey, who knows the area well and is popular with our women hunters. We also have a dedicated non-hunter programme, where our guide will tailor outings to requirements. Whether you want to visit wineries and historic local towns or fit in some shopping, fishing or hiking – there are abundant options in the scenic Southern Lakes region, which surrounds Glen Dene.
I look forward to catching up with our friends and meeting new clients at the following shows next year where Glen Dene Hunting and Fishing will have a presence – the SCI /Reno-Sparks Hunters Convention; 2019 Slam Quest Convention in Las Vegas; Great American Outdoor Show in Pennsylvania; National Wild Turkey Show in Nashville and the Jagd und Hund in Dortmund, Germany.
Thanks to all those who visited us this year and we look forward to welcoming new friends over the coming hunting season. Have a safe and happy festive season,
Richard Burdon.
