It’s incredible what you can fit into a week hunting with Glen Dene Hunting and Fishing in New Zealand. During their trip, Emily and AJ did not stop!
Bull tahr hunt at our backcountry tahr camp was the first mission! A mix of weather helped them appreciate the harsh and vibrant beauties of New Zealand’s Southern Alps, but didn’t hinder the harvesting of a beautiful bull tahr! Time in tahr country remained for Emily to also harvest a young animal for the meat they were excited to bring home!
A quick day on the water at the West Coast broke up the week of backcountry hunting. All were able to snorkel for crayfish, a rich, cold-water New Zealand lobster, and paua, a type of abalone and New Zealand delicacy.
Freshly speared fish fed the crew during the day on the water and crays were grilled on the shore when they returned.
A couple nights were spent in Glen Dene’s backcountry cabin to hunt both red and fallow deer. The goal was to harvest more meat for their next week touring New Zealand in a camper van and for them to fly back to the US, but they also saved some of the beautiful skins.
A trip of a lifetime for sure!
